Look beneath the index with market breadth

market-breadth-on-tradingview

An index is an average. And averages can hide a lot. A market can keep moving higher even as fewer stocks participate in the advance. Or the headline index can look quiet while strength is spreading more broadly underneath.

Market breadth metrics add that missing layer. Alongside price performance, you can now see how widely stocks are participating in the move and whether the broader market is confirming what the index is showing. All this is now available on TradingView.

Read more than price

Breadth gives you a quick read on a market’s internal condition:

  • Advancing and declining stocks show whether gains or losses dominate
  • The share of stocks above key moving averages helps gauge how broadly a trend is supported
  • New highs and lows show whether strength or weakness is becoming more widespread

Read these signals alongside the index itself. When price and breadth strengthen together, the move has broader participation behind it. When they diverge, the headline number may be hiding a different picture underneath.

Compare markets side by side

On Indices and World Stocks pages, market breadth is available directly in the tables, so you can compare the internal condition of major markets at a glance.

Markets with similar headline performance can look very different once you compare their breadth.

See breadth in context

On country pages, market breadth summarizes participation across the local stock market — with a compact version available for a faster read while browsing.

On individual index pages, breadth reflects the index’s components, giving you another way to judge whether its current move is broad or concentrated.

A wider view of every move

Price shows the direction. Breadth shows how much of the market is moving with it.

Together, they give you a more complete view of market strength, weakness, and participation — now directly across TradingView market and index pages.
